Stripping the Powers – Week 5 of Our Lenten Series
Feeling overshadowed by world events, oppressive systems, or even spiritual darkness? This Sunday, we continue our “Stripped” Lenten series by looking at how Christ’s crucifixion dismantles both earthly rulers and spiritual forces. We’ll see how the very cross used to silence Jesus became the means by which He disarmed every power – from political authorities like Pilate and the religious elite, to the cosmic powers of evil that plague our world. When fear arises from the headlines – wars, political tension, or spiritual battles – the gospel reminds us that God’s plan ultimately prevails, and we can stand in Christ’s victory with humble confidence.
Key Scriptures:
• Colossians 2:13–15 – Christ disarms spiritual authorities at the cross
• James 4:7 – Resist the devil, and he flees
• 1 Corinthians 15:56–57 – Thanks be to God who gives us victory through our Lord Jesus Christ
Which ‘powers’—political, social, or spiritual—feel overwhelming to you, and how might Christ’s victory on the cross change your perspective?
